Today the community gathered at the Salvation Army in Staple Hill to mark two significant moments in our history: the 80th anniversary of VJ Day and the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. It was a moving service of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude for the courage and sacrifice of all those who served.
A heartfelt thank you to the Salvation Army and their band, whose music brought such dignity the occasion. Their contribution created a fitting atmosphere for us to pause and remember.

We also extend our thanks to bugler Theo Knight, whose playing was both poignant and powerful, and to everyone who attended the service today. Your presence ensured that the memories of those who gave so much continue to be honoured by our community.

“As a community we come together not just to remember, but to show that the courage and sacrifice of past generations still matter to us today. I am deeply grateful to everyone who joined us, together we keep their memory alive.”
Ian Campbell - Chair of the Staple Hill and District Branch
You can watch the recorded service below thanks to the Staple Hill Salvation Army.
Following the service, a small gathering led by Branch President, Cllr Ian Boulton, was held at the home of local veteran, Harry Francis.

As we look back on these anniversaries, we are reminded not only of the cost of conflict but also of the importance of unity, peace, and remembrance.
