On Sunday 6 August, an event organised by the Staple Hill and District Branch of the Royal British Legion took place in Page Park.

The service which was led by members of the Staple Hill Salvation Army saw the community come together with local politicians and veterans to remember those that fought during both conflicts.

An often-forgotten conflict, 60,000 service personnel from across Britain and the Commonwealth saw action during the Korean War, with 1,100 losing their lives.

Ian Campbell, Chairman of the local Royal British Legion branch said:

''It's important that we remember those that fought in Korea. They often call themselves the 'forgotten' and today we made sure that they weren't.''

The event also commemorated the beginning of the Iraq war, twenty years ago where 179 British service personnel were killed and many more returned inured or scarred physically and mentally.
