The Staple Hill & District Branch of the Royal British Legion is encouraging local young people aged 12 to 18 to get involved with the work of the branch by becoming free youth members.

Membership is completely free and open to anyone in that age group with an interest in supporting veterans, learning more about the Armed Forces, or contributing to local community life.
Theo Knight, current RBL youth member of the branch, said: “Joining the Royal British Legion has been a great experience. I’ve learned so much about local history, helped out at events, and met some amazing people. It’s also counted towards my Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which has been a bonus! I’d really recommend it to anyone who wants to get involved in the community and do something that makes a difference.”
As a youth member, you’ll have the opportunity to:
Take part in local remembrance events and parades, including our annual service in Page Park
Support fundraising and Poppy Appeal activities
Volunteer at community events and contribute to local causes
Use your involvement as part of your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award volunteering section
Learn about the history and values of the Armed Forces
Meet like-minded young people and be part of something meaningful
You don’t need any military background, just a desire to get involved and make a difference. It’s a great way to build confidence, give back to your community, and add something unique to your CV, university applications, or personal development goals.
Branch Chair Ian Campbell said: "We’re proud to have a long history in Staple Hill, but we’re also looking to the future. We want young people to be part of that future; to help us remember, support, and continue our work for generations to come."
